Why I deleted Telegram
As someone living in Eastern Europe, I've seen firsthand how popular Telegram is here. I want to share my journey with this app and why, me and my immediate family are now parting ways with it.
Initially, like many, I used Telegram without much concern. However, as I learned more about digital privacy, I became increasingly uncomfortable with it. Despite my growing reservations, I continued using Telegram because some family members and even professional connections, including the WHO Youth Council, chose to rely on it for communication.
It's worth noting that even respected organizations can make such decisions. This serves as a reminder that we shouldn't stop questioning or informing ourselves about technology choices, even when they come from reputable institutions.
As my understanding of privacy issues deepened, I began advocating for truly open-source, end-to-end encrypted alternatives like Signal. I've consistently tried to raise awareness about Telegram's privacy implications, hoping to inspire others to make more informed choices about their digital privacy.
